I would like to take this opportunity to introduce to you Doc’s Spring Fever Charity Classic Car Show, if you haven’t already been involved. The car show was created to help meet the needs of those less fortunate in the Belvidere/Boone County area. The Helping Hands network through Immanuel Lutheran Church and His Glory Christian Outreach Center work to help those in need. The Helping Hands Network is made up of volunteers that coordinate other local churches with the needs of people that request assistance such as furniture, rent money, prescriptions, coats, appliances, etc. All of these things are donated to the Helping Hands Network. His Glory Christian Outreach Center is an immediate care center helping provide milk, diapers, food, clothing, shelter, counseling, jobs and spiritual guidance for single mothers, homeless, those coming out of incarceration, or anyone in need. All of these things are donated or opportunities offered. You and I don’t see the needs of those less fortunate in the Belvidere/Boone County area like these two charities. We can only guess the impact that they have in the lives of these people.

The first year we had 35 sponsors and 125 registered cars and raised $2,800.00. The second year we had 49 sponsors, 144 registered, approximately 30 non-registered cars and raised $7,500.00. Last year we had 60 sponsors and 169 registered and approximately 20 non-registered cars. When all was said and done we had grossed $12,820.00. After expenses we are able to give Helping Hands Network and His Glory Christian Outreach Center each $5,000.00 and $1,000.00 to the Illinois Special Olympics in Memory of Gary Rients.

During the past couple of years we have had several fellow cruisers pass away. We have developed a new club called the Stateline Tribute to Fallen Cruiser Network. Members of this club pay tribute to the fallen cruiser by attending and participating in the funeral procession with their classic cars. A plaque is also presented to the family in memory of the fallen cruiser. This year we will have a special Memorial area reserved for family members to display the cars of those fallen cruisers. Some of those families have chosen to give a Memorial Trophy in the fallen cruisers name.

It may say Doc’s Spring Fever Charity Classic Car Show but it’s not my show. It’s our car show, whether you sponsor a trophy, register a car, make a donation or volunteer your time. It is because of you that Doc’s Annual Spring Fever Charity Classic Car Show is such a success and we are able to support these worthy charities. I would like to ask for your help this year in meeting our goal of $15,000.00. Any contribution you could make would be greatly appreciated, and know by doing so you are supporting these charities that do so much for our community. We can only imagine the impact that they have on the lives of those less fortunate than you and I.

You can take your donation as a tax deduction if you make your check payable to Helping Hands Network or His Glory Christian Outreach Center and mail it to the same address.
