Common Questions
Q: Is my piece worth redoing?
A: If the piece is an heirloom from a family member that has passed away or a member of your family that has been using the piece and now wants to give it to you or you yourself used the piece in your younger years, you can’t put a price on sentimental value. I am firm believer in keeping family pieces in the family and well worth redoing.
When considering redoing a piece there are some things you want to keep in mind that will help you decide for yourself what the piece is worth to you. Do you like the way the piece fits the room or space available? Is it a useful piece of furniture? Do you like the way it sits? Do you like the style? If you answer “Yes” to these questions then you will feel it is worth it to you to invest your time and money into having it redone.
You may have compared your piece with buying a new piece finding nothing close to the comfort, size, style or quality of the piece you have. Let’s face it we live in a throw-away society that affects all realms of industry from appliances, television, computers, automobiles and yes, even furniture. Quality is in what you pay for and you get what you pay for.
Now with Doc’s Upholstery and Refinishing Shop, Inc. you have an opportunity to select your fabric to fit your décor and liking. You can make style changes if you’d like. You can select the color of finish on your wood pieces. At Doc’s you get to make the decisions on what you want, not what someone has already decided for you.
Q: What’s it going to cost?
A: First of all does your furniture owe you anything? You paid for the frame style already, most likely a number of years ago when there was only good quality craftsmanship. Cost covers a wide area. In the old days maybe Doc’s would do some work for you in exchange for a couple of chickens and some eggs, but as the times change we all need that five letter word to exist “Money”.
This is where Doc does his work. Your cost is figured in materials selected. In our Fabric Gallery there are approximately 10,000 fabric swatches. Many are 18 x 18 in size giving you a good prospective on what you are selecting for your décor. We offer the option of allowing you to take home as many swatches as you would like to see how they will look in the room. This allows you to see what fabric goes best with the other pieces in the room as well as your carpet, paint and window treatments. Most of these fabrics have a price range of $20.00 to $60.00 per yard. Many of our fabrics are factory scotch guarded and are current (available after a few years) in case there is a mishap. As I always say kids, cats and dogs keep me in business. Labor varies with every piece. We will need to discuss that after you have selected a fabric or finish and if there are any changes or repairs that need to be done.
You have worked hard for your money. Many of you have scrimp and scrounge raising a family. Some have lived on a tight budget to plan for those retirement years. It’s nice to do a little something for yourself, something that you can enjoy coming home to. Your money will buy you more today than it will tomorrow. It’s a value!
