Refinishing
We take great effort to restore each piece to as close to original as possible, but still usable and functional.
We start by hand-stripping each piece (no dipping) with a chemical stripper that removes old finish and paint. If possible, each piece is then completely taken apart and reconstructed. In most cases reconstructing involves repairing the piece to better than it was originally made, by using screws and dowels instead of nails. While the furniture is unassembled, it's completely pre-sanded in preparation for staining and finishing. Any needed repairs, like adding missing parts, carvings, or turnings, will be completed with wood that matches the original as closely as possible. Penetrating stains and today's hard surface finishes are a must in restoring your pieces.
